With over three decades of global surf travel and 25+ years as a professional instructor, Bobo created his own signature teaching techniques. He will guide you from the city vibes to the North Coast, catching the true essence of wave riding.
The Story Behind the Legend
“When I was a child in Santo Domingo, my father took me to the beach to get away from city life and connect with the ocean. I loved playing in the shorebreak and practiced every sport available—baseball, basketball, roller-skating, and skateboarding. Looking back, those sports built the perfect balance for my future.”
Everything changed the day Bobo tried surfing. It wasn’t just a sport; it was a life-altering feeling that filled his mind, body, and spirit with positive vibrations. After a year of meditation, he made the ultimate choice: moving to the North Coast of the Dominican Republic in search of the perfect wave.
Overcoming the First Wave
It wasn’t an easy start. Bobo caught his first wave at age 13:
“My first time surfing was frustrating. I didn’t learn the correct way, and it felt like the hardest thing I had ever tried. My body ached, and I almost gave up. But days later, I felt an empty space in my soul. I realized what was missing: surfing.”
He tried again with the right guidance, and he never stopped. Today, Bobo has been teaching for over two decades and founded his own surf school and camp 11 years ago.
From Champion to World Traveler
Bobo’s passion quickly turned into competitive excellence:
- Age 14: Became the Dominican Junior Surf Champion.
- Later Years: Crowned National Champion in the Open Men’s Division.
- Age 17: Started competing internationally, representing the Dominican Republic in Pro-Am events.
Surfing opened the doors to the world. In his pursuit of perfect waves and cultural connection, Bobo has traveled and surfed across:
- The Americas: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Nicaragua, California, and the Galapagos Islands.
- The Caribbean: Barbados and around the Dominican Republic.
- Europe & Asia: Portugal and Bali, Indonesia.
